Good afternoon Fort McMurray Catholic Schools families,
As we prepare for Christmas break we reach out to our families again to say thank you. We know these have not been easy times. The constant changes, uncertainty, and unpredictability can weigh on us all. We are continually thankful for your patience, grace, and compassion as we all navigate these times. Please see this video Christmas message from Superintendent George McGuigan.
Christmas break is a time where many of us choose to gather and to travel. Fort McMurray Catholic Schools wishes to make sure we are all aware of current guidance in regards to COVID-19. Please be aware of the latest information from our Province and the Government of Canada, and know this information can change at any time without notice:
- Alberta Government update (as of December 15, 2021)
- Please note rapid test kits would only be available for K-6 schools that are on the Alberta school status alert list. All tests would be for at home use and optional.
- Government of Canada Travel Advisories
- Government of Canada Travel, Testing, & Borders
We know several of our staff, and families will be traveling with children as well. We wish to remind you of the current federal protocol when it comes to unvaccinated minors returning to Canada. According to the current rules an unvaccinated child under 12 does not need to isolate (stay at home and not leave) for 2 weeks upon their arrival home, but they must not attend school or daycare for 2 weeks upon their return to Canada.
We have been so thankful to see your children being thoughtful citizens in our schools this month of advent. Watching their service to the community through supporting organizations like Santas Anonymous, the Wood Buffalo Food Bank, and the Centre of Hope remind us of the true meaning of Christmas. It has also been an honour to watch our students share their Advent Messages and see Advent through their eyes.
Please take this upcoming opportunity to rest, relax, and enjoy the holiday season.
