February 26, 2022
Good afternoon Fort McMurray Catholic Schools families,
The Government of Alberta announced this morning we will be moving into step 2 of a lessening of public health restrictions. This will begin as of March 1, 2022.
We wish to highlight some items that will and will not be changing as we return to school on March 7, 2022.
Masks
The province has announced masks will no longer be mandatory in schools upon our return to school after this break on March 7, 2022. This applies to all students, staff, and visitors. Fort McMurray Catholic Schools will continue to recommend and support mask use.
We do wish to highlight that the current isolation requirements following a positive test result have not changed. So, for instance, if a fully vaccinated student returns to school on day 6 of their isolation with no symptoms, they must be fully masked in school for the entirety of the day and continue to do so for their full isolation period.
Vaccination Requirements
There has been no change at this time to the Fort McMurray Catholic School Division Administrative Procedure regarding vaccination requirements in our schools. This means for example unvaccinated volunteers would still need to provide proof of a negative test.
Visitors in Schools
Visitors will be welcome in school by appointment.
Spectators at Sports
Spectators will be allowed to attend sports in school gymnasiums. There will be no food or drink allowed in school gymnasiums. Mask use for all spectators will be recommended.
Contact Notifications
Fort McMurray chose to continue to notify families and staff about cases of COVID-19 possibly infectious in class after Alberta Health and AHS ended this process at the beginning of 2022. We made this decision to continue to be as transparent as possible with families during the omicron wave of COVID-19 in our community.
As the provincial government has further lessened COVID-19 restrictions, we discontinued the contact notification process (daily email about cases in schools) February 25, 2022.
We still encourage families to make their school aware of positive COVID-19 test results. This will allow schools to best support your child, as well as be aware of trends within our school communities and make data based decisions.
Daily Checklist
The Alberta Health daily checklist will remain for the time being. We continue to remind families to monitor for any signs or symptoms of COVID-19 using the Alberta Health Screening Questionnaire.
God Bless,
Fort McMurray Catholic Schools
