April 16, 2021
Attention Father Mercredi High School families,
As we continue to see a steep increase in COVID-19 cases in our community, we have reached the point where tough decisions must be made. In a joint application made to the Ministry of Education yesterday, Fort McMurray Catholic Schools and Fort McMurray Public School Division (FMPSD) requested to move grades 7-12 online from April 19-30, 2021. That request was approved this evening.
This means all students at Father Mercredi High School will be learning online from home from April 19-30, 2021.
We all agree the best place for learning is in the classroom, but these decisions must be made with the safety of students and staff in mind.
These decisions have been made in consultation with Alberta Education, Alberta Health, Alberta Health Services, and Fort McMurray Public Schools.
Grade 7-12 students
Grades 7-12 at Father Mercredi High School will transition to online/virtual learning from April 19th to April 30th, 2021. This means grades 7-12 at Father Mercredi High School will be closed to all students from April 19 to April 30, 2021.
- As you are aware, every teacher has set up an online presence to support students while at home. If you need additional support logging into Google Classroom please connect with your teacher.
**Please note that our Vocational Education program at Father Mercredi High School will continue in class for the week of April 19 to April 30, 2021.
All students are expected to return to in school instruction on May 3rd, 2021.
Alberta Health Services continues to work closely with Fort McMurray Catholic Schools to support and manage the safety of our schools.
We remind families to monitor for any signs or symptoms of COVID-19 using the Alberta Health Screening Questionnaire. Please remember to complete the checklist each day prior to attending school. If you or a member of your family has any of the symptoms of illness listed, please fill out the online Alberta Health Services COVID-19 self-assessment or call Health Link at 811.
The health and safety of our staff, students and community is paramount. We know this news can be distressing for families and supports are available.
Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Lisa Miller, Father Mercredi High School Principal
George McGuigan, Fort McMurray Catholic Schools Superintendent
