Fort McMurray Catholic Schools Celebrates 2019/20 School Year

(FORT MCMURRAY, AB – August 30, 2019) – The Fort McMurray Catholic Schools family is ready for this new school year. The first day of school is set for September 3rd, 2019. Please slow down in school and playground zones and watch out for young children in our neighbourhoods.

Fort McMurray Catholic Schools Board Chair Cathie Langmead is thanking everyone for their hard work over the summer, “Our caretakers and maintenance staff have done an incredible job this summer- our schools look so welcoming for the start of the year! And thank you to all of our staff who have spent so many hours preparing for the first day of school on Tuesday.”

Fort McMurray Catholic Schools Superintendent George McGuigan says there is plenty to celebrate going into this year, “We are so proud of our past success, and we look forward to building upon it. I look at the Alberta Education Accountability Pillar. It is a snapshot in time in our District, and a tool we can use as we measure success. When I see a 0.0% dropout rate for our students I have immense pride in our staff. No student is left behind. I see our students are achieving above provincial averages. I see our FNMI students having unparalleled successes compared to provincial numbers. I’m so thankful for the dedication of our students, our teachers, our entire staff, and the relationships we have in our community.”

“We are particularly proud of these incredible results,” continues Chair Langmead. “They are one of many measurement tools we can utilize. It’s another testament to how diligent the entire Fort McMurray Catholic Schools family is when it comes to student success.”

Superintendent George McGuigan says our faith will guide us this year, “As we begin this new year, we keep our Lord as our guide. We will use our Faith to help us through the tough times we will face. We are looking forward to this school year and working with the entire Fort McMurray Catholic Schools family. Ready or not, here they come!”

Chair Langmead says she is very excited about the upcoming school year, “We are looking forward to celebrating with our schools this year! There is so much to celebrate from academic achievement, to anniversaries, liturgies and masses, athletic achievement, there are so many milestones being achieved! I’m also excited about finishing our strategic plan. We are looking forward to communicating our goals and vision for the next 3 years.”
