April 25, 2021

Attention Fort McMurray Catholic School families,

As we continue to see a steep increase in COVID-19 cases in our community, we have once again reached the point where tough decisions must be made. In a joint application made to the Ministry of Education, Fort McMurray Catholic Schools and Fort McMurray Public School Division (FMPSD) requested to move all schools and grades online until May 10, 2021. That request was approved late this afternoon.

This move to virtual learning begins immediately starting tomorrow morning, April 26, 2021.

EEP/K – Grade 3

Your teacher will reach out to you shortly with details of what the continuation of student learning will look like for your child.

Grade 4 – 6 students

As you are aware, every teacher has set up an online presence to support students while at home. If you need additional support logging into Google Classroom please connect with your teacher.

Grade 7 to 12 students

Virtual learning will continue for grade 7-12 students for an additional week.

As you are aware, every teacher has set up an online presence to support students while at home. If you need additional support logging into Google Classroom please connect with your teacher.

All students will be scheduled to return to in school instruction on May 10, 2021.

***Please note that our Specialized Services Programs (Independent Living Programs at Holy Trinity Catholic High School and Father Beauregard School, Vocational Education at Father Mercredi, and our Junior Transition Program at St Gabriel School) will continue in class.

Alberta Health Services continues to work closely with Fort McMurray Catholic Schools to support and manage the safety of our schools.

We remind families to monitor for any signs or symptoms of COVID-19 using the Alberta Health Screening Questionnaire. Please remember to complete the checklist each day prior to attending school. If you or a member of your family have any of the symptoms of illness listed, please fill out the online Alberta Health Services COVID-19 self-assessment or call Health Link at 811.

The health and safety of our staff, students and community is paramount. We know this news can be distressing for families and supports are available.

Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

George McGuigan, Fort McMurray Catholic Schools Superintendent
