We recognize the memories, pain, and fear of the flood one year ago this week. We pray with you, walk with you, and all work to heal together.
God Gives Us A Spirit Of Strength And Power
Through faith in Christ we are given a spirit of power, love and discipline, and for that reason we have nothing to fear. We can hold onto his promises and be confident that he’ll see us through even the darkest of days.
Almighty and everlasting God, You are strength to those who suffer and comfort to those who grieve. Time after time, you are a light in the dark, merciful and faithful. You hear our prayers and we need only open our eyes, ears and hearts to you.
It is a year since the waters rose in our community and caused us to leave our homes. Though there was much destruction, dismay and uncertainty – you worked your way to each of us. Your face was seen in the volunteers, the first responders, the neighbours, the teachers, the church, the government and all those who, through time or treasury came to our aid. We know your strength when we see it Lord and for that we are thankful.
Because you are our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble – we will not fear. Though the earth gives way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging – we shall not fear.
One year later, we look to you with praise and gratitude. Our comforter, our all in all – here in Christ’s love we stand ever faithful, ever thankful.
Amen
